"Nature's garden"
Auyuittuq National Park, Baffin Island

Auyuittuq National Park located on the Cumberland peninsula of Baffin Island is a land largely dominated by rock and ice. The park is accessible only by boat or snow machine from the Inuit village of Pangnirtung, and is visited only by a few hardy backpackers and mountain climbers during the brief arctic summer.

The western section of Pangnirtung pass is bisected by the Weasel River as it drains Summit Lake, crossing numerous glacial moraines on its way to Pangnirtung fjord at the head of the pass. For a short period in July the the banks of the Weasel river come alive with the bright fucia of Purple Saxifrage, the first plant to flower each spring, in contrast to the monotone gray landscape in this towering glacial valley.
