Christian Cardell Corbet
"Alicette"
London, Ontario

"Alicette" is an Ontario residence of noted Canadian artist Christian Cardell Corbet, PPCPA, CGAM, ISA, FRSA.

The gardens at "Alicette" were created in memory of Christian Cardell Corbet's grandmother, Alice Charlotte Corbet (nee Gould) who is regarded as the first woman school board trustee in Ontario, and for whom the artist was raised by and had a very close relationship with. The name of the house is derived from the artist's grandmother's first name "Alice" and the last three letters of her middle name Charlo"tte". The gardens are situated around a unique custom built Georgian style structure designed and built by the late Ivory Mardlin and was presented to her grandson as a wedding gift.

The gardens were exclusively designed and planted by Corbet himself to display brilliant flowing shapes and forms. A broad cross-section of unique and rare trees and plants behold an almost magical fantasy feel which curve and wind with lyrical foot paths that circulate around a double river rock stream and pond complete with antique statuary and spitters, patio, potting table and a unique cedar love swing.

"Alicette" also has a smaller garden called "The Little Spot" which was built as a contemplative garden where wisteria, gladiolas, periwinkle and lilies grow in abundance. Many of the plants at "Alicette" are over 100 year old perennials that were brought over from England and Scotland at the turn of the century by the Corbet and Gould families and have been combined with newer specimens of ornate grasses and shrubbery. The gardens at "Alicette" are a tranquil site to behold and lovingly created to celebrate the life of the artist's late grandmother.

Christian Cardell Corbet's career commenced at the early age of 15 and continues to this very day. Corbet studied at the University of Guelph, McMaster Anatomy Laboratory and privately under the renowned Canadian sculptor Dr. Elizabeth Bradford Holbrook, CM. Since 1995 Corbet has received international acclaim for a number of important works to include landscape painting, portraiture and forensic artistry. Some of Corbet's noted subjects include the late H M Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, author Margaret Atwood and anthropologist Dr. Jane Goodall among others. Corbet's art medals and paintings are represented in such prestigious museums and galleries to include the British Museum, Imperial War Museum and the Rijksmuseum among many others worldwide. Corbet works from his studio and in the gardens at "Alicette" where he receives great inspiration.
