North Bay Garden
Ms. Demers

Northern gardeners face numerous challenges, a shorter growing season, sourcing the right “hardy” plants, and of course, wretched mosquitoes and black flies. These hurdles, with the addition of a steep slope and dozens of shade trees, were easily overcome by North Bay Ontario gardener, Ms. Demers.

Her delightful front gate opens up to several plateaus, a mighty steep incline and hundreds of shade loving plants like ferns, hostas, hydrangeas and periwinkle.

What do her neighbours think of her garden? Ms. Thorne who lives two doors down told us “Whenever I’m feeling frazzled, I sneak into her garden and immediately feel a great sense of calm”
